  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We reviewed 8 patients who had undergone renal autotransplantation for renovascular hypertension. The cause of renal arterial stricture was atherosclerosis in 6 patients. fibromuscular dysplasia in 1 and aortitis syndrome in 1. Their age ranged 36 to 66 years. In 3 patients the function of the opposite kidney had been lost or reduced. All involved kidneys were transplanted in the ipsilateral iliac fossa without dividing the ureter. Postoperative followup averaged 64 months (13 to 121 months). In 7 of 8 patients the postoperative plasma renin activity returned to normal.
