緒言

　セラチアは従来，病原性のないグラム陰性桿菌と考えられていた。しかし近年，抗生物質の目覚しい発達により感染症に質的変貌が生じ，その一つとしてセラチアによる感染症の報告が増加しつつある。時にはこれが重篤な敗血症に移行することもあり，セラチア感染症は臨床上重要な問題となつてきている。著者らは最近，前立腺摘除術後，セラチアによる敗血症を来した1症例を経験したのでこれをここに報告し，セラチア感染症，特に敗血症の問題点につき簡単に論じたい。

A 76 year-old male underwent a suprapubic prostatectomy for benign prostatic hypertrophy and had been given 10 g. of sulbenicillin daily i.v. after surgery. Two days postoperatively the patient had a sudden attack of shaking chills and high fever and fell into shock. On the forth postoperative day hepassed copious bloody stools. Blood and urine cultures yielded serratia marcescens resistant to all anti-biotics except gentamicin. Antibiotic therapy was then changed to 80 mg. of gentamicin i.m. every 6 hours. The patient gradually responded to the treatment and blood culture became negative.
