Overactive bladder(OAB)and dementia significantly affect quality of life in elderly individuals. In contrast, anticholinergic side effects of OAB drugs, particularly on cognitive function have attracted attention. We conducted a study to determine a new anticholinergic agent, inidafenacin's effect on OAB and cognitive function in 62 elderly subjects with neurologic diseases. After 0.2 mg/day, 3-months administration of imidafenacin, no worsening of cognitive function as measured by MMSE, FAB and ADAS-cog were noted, whereas OAB and urodynamic bladder capacity improved. The results suggest that imidafenacin is a choice for OAB in elderly subjects with neurologic diseases in terms of cognitive function.
