Two cases of papillomatosis carcinoides (oral florid papillomatosis) in 68-and 60-year-old men were reported.

Both cases showed verrucous proliferation on the oral mucosa and adjacent skin and were treated as spinous cell carcinoma. Both cases had had the lesion for more than ten years and experienced recurrences after resection. However, no metastasis had been noticed. X-ray treatment was effective, but one case underwent resection after irradiation.

This disease is caused by the proliferation of spinous cells. However, the disease is differentiated from spinous cell carcinoma by slow growth, rare occurrence of metastasis and histologic benignity, that is, intact basal layer and no atypicality of the cells.

There are about ten reported cases in the world. 'Verrucous carcinoma', reported mostly in the oral surgery and 'leucoplakia verrucosa' are considered to be nearly identical with this disease.
