typical case of this disease on the cheeks, eyelids, and nasal root in a 47-year-old female Drmer with a 5 years' history.
Laboratory tests revealed mild disturbances in the hepatocellular function. Serum cholesterol level was 190 mg/dl, and there was no abnormality in serum protein fractions. Histologic specimen revealed various-sized, amorphous, homogeneous masses in the upper and middermis. They were faintly eosinophilic by H & E. strongly positive by PAS (diastase resistant), negative by congo red, negative by alcian blue, and weakly mctachromatic by crystal violet.
Differences between the colloid and amyloid substance on electron microscopic findings, and es-pecially their nature and origin were discussed. They both might be produced by fibroblasts in the dermis. The colloid substance seemed to have rather akin character to the ground substance of the dermis than amyloid.
