  • Look Inside

A 23-years old student, a male, visited us on July 15, 1970, complaining of a generalized, erythrodermic and scaly eruption. In the end of April, 1970, he developed an erythematous, hyperkeratotic change on the palms and soles which spread on the entire body in the lapse of two weeks. A slight pruritus was accompanied. On examination, on the entire body except for a few "white islands" on the median part of the trunk, knees and elbows, a generalized erythro-derma with pityriasic or lamellar scales was noted. Biopsy specimen revealed horny plugging with a collarette, spotted parakeratosis and irregular acanthosis. Laboratory examinations were not contributative. Topical treatment with the occlusive dressing technique using fluocinolone acetonide cream caused a rapid clearing of the lesion.

From the references of the foreign and Japanese literatures, the reason of low incidence of the erythrodermic, generalized type of PRP in Japan (14%), compared with foreign countries (28 to 44%) is unknown.
