  • Look Inside

Two cases of this disease in a 28-year-old female farmer and a 56-year-old male farmer were reported, which were the first and the second reports in Tohoku district.

The first case had a history of trauma, and had fist-sized tumor with fistula on the lateral aspect of left ankle. Nothing particular was found in physical and laboratory tests. Granules were proved in histologic section, and Nocardia caviae was identified from the lesion. It was cured by penicillin and sulfonamide.

The second case had a large severe lesion on and around the inner aspect of the left foot, which was composed of many nodules and tumors. Diabetes mellitus was proved by laboratory tests. Histologic specimen had granules. Nocardia asteroides was proved from the lesion. Antibiotics and sulfonamide were effective especially with concurrent use of adrenocortical steroid.
