  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A 72-year-old dealer in coals, living in Shibata City of Niigata Prefecture, had a slightly elevated, erythematous, thumb-tip-sized infiltrated eruption on the nasal root, which developed into ulceration in some part. The similar lesion appeared on the right check subsequently.

Histologic specimen showed granulomatous infiltration throughout the dermis. In the upper dermis circumscribed cell proliferations (Kitamura) or sporotrichotic granulomas (Lurie) were recognized, in which asteroid bodies were demonstrated.

Sporotrichum schenckii was isolated. Lymphangitis and granulomas were found in mesen-teria of mice which were inoculated this fungus.

Sporotrichin reaction was positive and the patient's serum proved high agglutinin titer.
