  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Three cases of trichostasis spinulosa were reported.

These patients presented numerous follicular blackish dots on the nose, forehead and cheeks. The blackish plugs were expressed from the involved follicles with a comedone extractor and under the microscope they appeared as brush-like bundles of twenty to fifty lanugo hairs.

A biopsy specimen of the first case was obtained. Histologically, as in the article by Braun-Falco and Vakilzadeh (Hautarzt: 18, 501, 1967), an abnormal angle formation of the follicle-ax resulting from the dislocaton of the infraseboglandular follicular part, was noted.

These cases reported here are the first described ones in the Japanese literature. Trichost-asis spinulosa is a well known condition of the skin in Europe and America. However, this condition is not rare also in Japan, if carefully examined.
