  • Look Inside

In seventeen cases of papilloma of the nasal and paranasal sinuses, quantity of nuclear DNA was determined by flow cytometry (FCM).

By DNA histogram analysis, the relations bet-ween occurrence of DNA aneuploidy and malig-nant alteration or recurrence were investigated.

Seven cases with exophytic papilloma showed diploidy on DNA histogram. Five out of ten cases with inverted papilloma showed diploidy and DNA aneuploidy was shown in another five cases.

Malignant alteration was found in three out of five cases with DNA aneuploidy.

Recurrence was found in seven cases and three out of seven recurrent cases showed DNA aneu-ploidy.

It was suggested that the occurrence of DNA aneuploidy in the cases of papilloma in the nasal and paranasal sinuses (especially in inverted papilloma) had a high possibility of the malignant alteration.

There was no apparent relation between the differences in ploidy and the recurrence of the disease.
