Postoperative neurological signs in a 22-year-old male with pinealoma were studied. After surgical removal of pinealoma, he suffered from hearing disorder and difficulty in looking down. Audiological examination disclosed normal thresh-olds of pure tone audiometry, normal ABRs and MLRs and abnormally low speech discrimina-tions of both ears. Neuropsychological examina-tion demonstrated normal auditory comprehension. Eye movement tests showed downward gaze pa-ralysis, lateral gaze nystagmus and convergence nystagmus. A MRI study revealed a well defined low intensity area at the level of dorsal midbrain. It is considered that these signs could be mani-fested by the lesion which was probably caused by hemorrhage at the operation.
