（展示173）　44歳男性の右眼に急性視神経炎が生じた。ステロイド剤の全身投与により寛解したが，5か月間に2回の再発があり，そのつどステロイド剤で寛解し，以後18か月間治癒した状態にある。初診の3か月後に白血球増多と成人T型細胞白血病（HTLV−1）抗体陽性が発見された。HTLV−1の保因者に生じたステロイド反応性視神経炎と解釈された。

A 44-year-old male presented with acute optic neuritis in his right eye. It responded well to systemic corticosteroid. It recurred twice during the following 5 months and responded to corticosteroid treatment on each occasion. No recurrence has occurred during the 18 months after the last episode. Leukocytosis and positive antibody to human T cell leukemia (HTLV-I) was detected 3 months after his initial visit. The optic neuritis, which was responsive to corticosteroid, appeared to be a manifestation of HTLV-I carrier state.
