We reviewed 11 cases of eye injury incurred during playing golf in the past 5-year-period. Eye injury oc-curred unilaterally in all the cases. The series comprised 9 males and 2 females. Their ages ranged from 27 to 65 years, average 47 years. Eye injury was caused by flying golf ball in 7 cases, golfing equipment in 3 cases, and falling from electric cart in 1 case. Main eye lesions comprised eyeball rupture in 4 cases, hyphema in 3 cases, lens luxation in 2 cases, scleral rupture and corneal ruptute in 1 case each. Surgery was performed on 7 cases, of which 4 cases be-came blind and phthisis bulbi. Hitting by flying golf ball was the cause of injury in these 4 cases. The distance from the site of hitting the ball was within 150 yards in 3 of the 4 cases. The findings show that injury by golf ball may result in severe eye lesions and in poor outcome in the majority of cases.
