  • Look Inside

The inferior aperture of the nasolacrimal duct was observed using an endoscope in 20 patients with epiphora. The shape of the 40 apertures could be classified into 4 types : wide open (10%), valve-like (10%), sleeve-like (55%) and adhesive (25%). As a common finding, the bony nasolacrimal duct elongated cylindrically as a membranous duct along the wall of inferior nasal meatus. Its membranous structure was either short or long resulting in the endoscopically observed peculiarities. The wideopen type simulated the bony nasolacrimal duct. The other three types appeared to have been modified by the membranous structures.
