  • Look Inside

We performed phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation in 29 eyes which had received trabeculectomy for glaucoma. The series comprised primary open-angle glaucoma 17 eyes, primary angle-closure glaucoma 6 eyes and capsular glaucoma 6 eyes. Postoperative visual acuity improved in 24 eyes (83%) The intraocular pressure (IOP) remained in the preoperative range till 24 months after surgery. IOP was controlled below 18 mmHg in 91% of eyes one year after surgery and in 74% of eyes 3 years after surgery. The filtering bleb remained patient in 78% of eyes one year after surgery and in 55% of eyes 3 years after surgery. There was no difference in the medication score before and after surgery at the final examination. The patency of the filterring bleb was significantly correlated with the postoperative IOP control (p < 0.05) . The findings show the safety and effectiveness of cataract surgery in eyes with history of trabeculectomy regarding visual acuity and IOP control.
