  • Look Inside

We performed secondary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation by ciliary sulcus fixation in 13 eyes. These 13 eyes had undergone vitrectomy with pars plana lensectomy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy 6 eyes, vitreous hemorrhage 2 eyes, uveitis 2 eyes, endophthalmitis 2 eyes and macular hole retinal detachment 1 eye. No eye resulted in loss of visual acuity by 2 lines or more. The corneal endothelial cell density decreased more by 10% in one eye each of diabetic retinopathy and bacterial endophthalmitis. There were no serious complications either intra- or postoperatively. These cases illustrate the safety and effectiveness of secondary IOL implantation by sulcus fixation in aphakic eyes.
