  • Look Inside

We treated three eyes of traumatic macular hole by pars plana vitrectomy and dissection of posterior vitreous membrane followed by vitreous tamponade with sulfer hexafluoride. Postoperative follow-up ranged from 6 to 13 months, average 9 months. The macular hole was anatomically in all the eyes. The visual acuity improved from finger counting, hand motion and 0.04 to 0.6, 0.6 and 0.8 respectively. The findings show that early vitreous surgery may be effective for traumatic macular hole when the macula is spared from chorioretinal atrophy.
