We reviewed 50 eyes of 31 patients regarding the intraocular pressure (IOP) following excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). The ages averaged 28.3 ± 9.5 years. The preoperative spherical equivalent averaged -4.2 ± 1.9 D. A noncontact pneumatic tonometer was used in measuring the IOP. The IOP averaged 14±2 mmHg before surgery and 12±3 mmHg one month after surgery. The difference was significant (p <0.01, Mann-Whitney U test). The TOP was significantly correlated with the corrected diopter value, corneal thickness and corneal curvature. The findings show that postoperative TOP may be underestimated due to decreased corneal thickness and curvature. This feature has to be paid due attention in evaluating IOP after photorefractive surgery.
