We observed peripapillary retinoschisis associated with hypoplasia of the optic disc in 5 eyes of 4 adults. All the eyes showed small and red optic disc, flat retinal elevation including the peripapillary area and the macula, and cystoid changes in the fovea. Optic disc anomaly was bilaterally present. Pit of the optic disc was consistently absent. The retinoschisis occasionally extended to the peripheral fundus. The visual acuity ranged from 0.1 to 1.2 depending on the state of foveal involvement. The visual field showed slight depression cor-responding to the extent of retinoschisis. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) in two eyes showed separation of the sensory retina from the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) . Remnants of the sensory retina were present on the RPE. The sensory retina was separated into three layers. Each layer was connected by vertical column-shaped structures. These OCT findings were different from those of retinal detachment or retinal edema. The present cases thus showed common features which have not been reported before. It is claimed that they form a new clinical entity.
