  • Look Inside

We reviewed 14 astigmatic eyes treated by excimer laser keratectomy. The series comprised 9 eyes of idiopathic astigmatism and 5 eyes following cataract surgery. The initial amount of astigmatism averaged -4.72 ± 1.09 D in the former group and -3.45 ± 0.72 D in the latter. At 6 months after treatment, the amount of astigmatism averaged -1.56 ± 0.99 D in the former group and -0.80± 1.15 D in the latter. The amount of astigmatism had improved by 67% in the former group and by 75% in the latter. There was no significant dif-ference in the amount of astigmatic correction between the two groups. There was no instance of loss of corrected visual acuity by 2 lines or more in the whole series.
