  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

31-year-old male suffered from accidental exposure to titanium sapphire laser in the left eye. The laser was set at 800 nm in wavelength, pulse duration of 10-13"sec and 1W in power output. He noticed immediate visual blurring and central scotoma. He was referred to us one week after the incident. The visual acuity was 0.4. Funduscopy and onochromatic scanning laser ophthalmoscopy showed a white coagulative lesion in the deeper layers of the fovea. Fluorescein angiography showed a small hyperfluorescent area in the center of the foveal lesion surrounded by a hypofluorescent zone. Focal acular tinogram with a 4-degree spot was reduced to 80% in amplitude compared with that in the fellow eye. This case lustrates the urgent need to wear protective goggles for engineers and researchers in industrial or medical laser system.
