Abstract Purpose:To survey perioperative use of antibiotics and steroids for cataract surgery or trabeculectomy.

Subjects and Methods:In December 2016, a paper-based questionnaire was sent to the members of Heisei Glaucoma Club, a group of glaucoma specialists. The questionnaire was about the kind of antibiotics and dosing period of antibiotics and steroids before and after cataract surgery, trabeculectomy, or combined trabeculectomy and cataract surgery.

Results:The respondents consisted of 48 doctors from 34 facilities. The vast majority of surgeons used topical fluoroquinolones before and after surgery. From 66 to 73% of the surgeons administered topical antibiotics for 3 days before surgery. The majority of the surgeons administered topical antibiotics after cataract surgery, trabeculectomy, or combined trabeculectomy and cataract surgery for 1 month(51%), 3 months(41%), and 3 months(43%), respectively.

Conclusions:The way to administer antibiotics or steroids varied among surgeons or facilities. The appropriate way should be considered after examining safety and efficacy.
