Abstract Purpose: Because the incidence of Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty(DMEK)graft detachment influences the graft survival rate, it is important to promote the attachment of the implanted graft. We report a new method to reduce DMEK graft detachment which may result in graft dislocation.

Methods: We performed DMEK surgery on 6 eyes of 6 women(mean age was 70.8 years), who suffered from laser iridotomy bullous keratopathy(LIBK). Bubble-bumping maneuver was reported to flatten out peripheral inward folds of DMEK graft. For all cases, we performed this bubble-bumping maneuver to all quadrants of the DMEK graft periphery.

Results: We obtained good graft attachment. There was no case of air re-bubbling.

Conclusion: Our novel DMEK procedure, that adds one additional step of bubble-bumping maneuver to all quadrants of the DMEK graft periphery, is a simple and effective means of reducing DMEK complication of graft detachment.
