We evaluated a consecutive series of 1,870 cases with ophthalmoplegia seen by us during the past 10 years ending August 1981. These represent 2.98% of the whole patients (62,810) who visited us dur-ing the same period. Ophthalmoplegia secondray to surgery and concomitant squints were not inclu-ded.

Males outnumbered females by 1,117 versus 819. There were 788 cases under 15 years of age, 501 cases between 16 and 39 years, and 581 cases over 40 years of age.

The ophthalmoplegia was diagnosed as supra-nuclear palsy in 400 cases (20.7%), as nuclear-in-franuclear palsy in 879 (45.4%), myasthenia in 142 (7.3%),
