We evaluated the fluorescence in normal and cataractous lenses as slitlamp profile and thin his-tological section. We could detect distinct profiles in the localization of fluorescence instensities be-tween nuclear and cortical cataracts. In nuclear cataract, the fluorescence was more intense in the perinuclear regions with depressed plateau in the nuclear portion. In cortical cataract, the fluores-cence was generally less intense and showed its peak in the center of the nucleus. This feature sim-ulated that of normal human lens.

The intensity of fluorescence and the stage of nuclear sclerosis showed positive correlation.
