Uveal effusion
The subretinal and subchoroidal fluid obtained from a 53-year-old male during the active stage of uveal effusion was analysed by gel filtration and electrophoresis. The subretinal fluid was characterized by remarkably high protein content at 8.2 g/dl, composed almost entirely by albumin. Other large proteins were almost absent. The findings indicate that the protein components in the subretinal fluid in uveal effusion are plasma proteins which entered the subretinal space from the choroid through damaged barrier at the level of the pigment epithelium.
