The living conditions of 6072 inhabitants of a town and a village in Iwate pref. and the distribution of lice in 8612 children of primary school in Miyagi and Iwate pref. before and after the World War Ⅱ were investigated to know their relations to the distribution of trachoma. The results are as follows (bracketed passage shows the percentage of trachoma infections).

1. Families living in houses with large gardens (31.0%) and those in commodious houses (21.3%) have the lower infection percentage than those living in houses with small gardens (42.1%) or in small houses (41.9%).
