第3部ネパールの近代史

現ネパール王家，グルカ王朝の成立

　第二次世界大戦の時に日本兵と戦い，また一部は日本に傭われ英国と戦い，また最近はホンコンで暴徒慎圧に当つているグルカ兵とは，英国に傭用されているネパール人のことである。現ネパール，シャー王家はグルカであるが，通称のグルカ兵が，グルン，タマン，ライ，ランガール，リンブであるのと民族的には異なるのである。本来の民族学的な意味でのグルカは，インドの北部に住む種族，殺帝利族の商と称する精桿な種族で，1303年インドから追放され，最初ネパールの中央部の丘陵に逃れて避難していたが，そこに定着し，しだいに勢力を拡大していつた。1559年に小都市グルカに住んでいた王を打ち破つてそれを支配した。このことからグルカの名が生まれた。

The history and the social condition of Ne-pal in the modern and present ages are des-cribed. The description is intended to serve as introductory to the report of the author about the ophthalmological conditions of the country.
