Abstract. Purpose:To report changes in intraocular pressure(IOP)following topical fluorometholone. Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 128 eyes of 128 cases who were treated by intubation for nasolacrimal duct obstruction during the past 16 months. The series comprised 41 males and 87 females. The age ranged from 14 to 94 years, average 69 years. Patients were instructed to instill 0.1% fluorometholone ophthalmic solution four times daily in the treated eye. IOP was checked every month for 3 months after intubation using a pneumatic tonometer and, when necessary, by applanation tonometer. Elevated IOP was defined as IOP higher than 21 mmHg and by 30% or more above the baseline. Four out of 128 cases had been under treatment for primary open-angle glaucoma. Results:IOP before intubation averaged 14.0±2.6 mmHg in 128 eyes. Eleven eyes(8.6%)showed elevated IOP after start of fluorometholone. IOP was elevated in 4 eyes one month, and in 7 eyes 2 months or later after start of instillation. IOP normalized in 10 out of 11 eyes after discontinuation of fluorometholone. Conclusion:IOP became elevated in 11 out of 128 eyes(8.6%)after instillation of 0.1% fluorometholone 4 times daily. Elevation of IOP could not be prognosticated.
