Abstract. Purpose:To report a case of bilateral central artery occlusion that led to the detection of Churg-Strauss syndrome. Case:A 55-year-old female presented with impaired vision in her left eye since 2 days before. She had had bronchial asthma since 5 years before and been treated by bronchial dilator. Findings:Corrected visual acuity was 1.0 right and 0.1 left. The left fundus showed typical findings of central retinal artery occlusion. Fluorescein angiography showed recirculation in the retina. Visual acuity in the right eye suddenly decreased to 0.01 2 weeks later. Funduscopy showed findings of central retinal artery occlusion. She showed eosinophilia, peripheral vasculitis and multiple neuropathy that led to the diagnosis of Churg-Strauss syndrome. She had been doing well after treatment with systemic corticosteroid for one year until present with visual acuity of 0.03 right and 0.8 left. Conclusion:This case illustrates that central artery occlusion in a patient with bronchial asthma may be due to Churg-Strauss syndrome.
