Abstract. Purpose:To report complications after cataract surgery in an eye camp in Nepal. Cases and Method:This study was made on 65 eyes of 65 patients who received cataract surgery during 3 days in March 2010. Extracapsular cataract extraction(ECCE)was performed on 5 eyes,small-incision no-suture ECCE on 32 eyes, and phaco emulsification-aspiration(PEA)on 28 eyes. Results:Intraoperative complication occurred in 3 eyes. All the 65 eyes could receive insertion of intraocular lens. One month after surgery,48 patients showed up for reevaluation. Iris prolapse was present in one eye after ECCE and endophthalmitis in one eye after uneventful small-incision ECCE. Conclusion:PEA could be performed safely in our eye camp in Nepal. Improved medical facilities and education of patients are essential to prevent complications. Further medical support is also needed.
