Abstract. Purpose:To report the visual outcome in central retinal artery occlusion(CRAO)and branch retinal artery occlusion(BRAO). Cases and Method:This study was made on 25 eyes of 25 cases of CRAO or BRAO during the past 13 years. The series comprised 19 males and 6 females. The age ranged from 48 to 88 years, average 70 years. Visual acuity was evaluated as logMAR. Cases were followed up for 1 to 6 months, average 2.8 months. Results:Cilioretinal artery was present in one eye of CRAO and 3 eyes of BRAO. Visual acuity of 25 eyes averaged 0.86±1.05 initially and 0.55±0.83 two weeks later. The difference was significant(p=0.001). There was no difference between visual acuity 2 weeks after initial visit and at the final examination. Visual outcome was better in eyes with cilioretinal artery. Final visual acuity was positively correlated with initial visual acuity. Conclusion:Visual acuity improved during the initial 2 weeks and not thereafter in CRAO and BRAO.
