Abstract. We treated two cases of penetrating ocular injury by topical instillation of 0.05%argatroban ophthalmic solution. The purpose was to prevent fibrinous exudation in the anterior chamber and to regain visibility of the fundus. The first patient developed fibrinous exudation in the anterior chamber on day 2 of injury. Instillation of argatroban 6 times daily resulted in decrease of exudation 3 days later and in resolution 6 days later. The second patient had foreign body in the vitreous. Fibrinous exudation appeared on day 2 of vitreous surgery. Instillation of argatroban 4 times daily resulted in decrease in fibrinous exudation 6 days later and in its resolution another 4 days later. These cases show that argatroban may be useful to inhibit fibrinous exudation following penetrating eye injury, particularly when corticosteroid is contraindicated because of infection.
