過去15年における視覚障害者の施設への入所原因

Causes of entering institutions for visually handicapped persons during the past fifteen years

要約　視覚障害者更生施設，重度身体障害者援護施設，その他の授産施設に入所している視覚障害者の状況を2001年に調査した。男性883人と女性427人，合計1,310人について，29施設から回答があった。視覚障害の原因は，網膜色素変性症25％，視神経萎縮15％，糖尿病網膜症9％が上位であった。1986年に行った同様の調査と比べて，今回は女性の割合が23％から33％に増加していた。残存視機能については，全盲者の割合が増加し，ロービジョン者の割合が減少した。以上の結果はリハビリテーションを行う際に考慮されるべきである。

Abstract.　We surveyed the status of visually handicapped persons who entered 29 rehabilitation centers in 2001.There were 1,310 persons comprising 883males and 427 females.The major causes of visual impairment were retinitis pigmentosa 25％,optic atrophy 15％and diabetic retinopathy 9％.The incidence of females was 33％,which was an increase from 23％in a similar survey in 1986.Regarding the residual visual function,the present survey showed an increase in total blindness and a decrease in low vision.These findings are expected to serve as a guide in attempts at rehabilitation.
