We evaluated the diurnal variation of interocular pressure(IOP)before and after surgery in 8 eyes of 6 patients of glaucoma. The series comprised primary open-angle glaucoma 5 eyes,Rieger syndrome 2 eyes, and uveitis with secondary glaucoma 1 eye. Four eyes received trabeculotomy and the other 4 eyes received trabeculectomy with adjunctive mitomycin C. All the eyes received medication for glaucoma before surgery and none after surgery. When evaluated 3 to 19months after surgery,IOP was decreased throughout the day with reduced diurnal variation. This effect was more pronounced in eyes after trabeculectomy than after trabeculotomy. Eyes receiving trabeculotomy showed lesser reductions in IOP and diurnal variation. It appeared that these eyes still retained the rhythm of diurnal variation to a certain extent.
