We reviewed 13 patients of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue(MALT)lymphoma of the ocular adnexa treated during 8 years through 2005. The series comprised 5 males and 8 females. Their ages ranged from 38 to 83 years, average 58 years. MALT lymphoma was bilateral in 7 cases and unilateral in 6. It was localized in the conjunctiva in 8 cases and originated from the orbit in 5 cases. All the cases received radiotherapy alone. The total dosis of radiation ranged from 30 to 54 Gy. Patients were followed up for 4 to 92 months, average 53 months. Complete remission was obtained in all cases of conjunctival lymphoma. Three cases of retrobulbar lymphoma obtained complete remission and two cases resulted in improvement. Orbital extraconal lymphoma disappeared, while intraconal cord-like tumor and lymphoma involving the extraocular muscle persisted after radiotherapy. This finding seemed to show differences in response to radiation according to the location and type of lymphoma. Late complications occurred after radiation more than 40 Gy.
