Experimental Studies on the Correlation between Lactation and Sexual Cycles

I．緒言

　われわれは授乳と卵巣機能との関係を臨床的に観察して，確かに授乳によって月経，したがつて卵巣機能が抑制される傾向があることを知つたが，この報告は動物実験によつて，種々の時期に離乳した場合，生理的限界をこえて授乳した場合に，卵巣機能が如何なる態度を示すかに関する性周期の観察を主としたものである。

In the clinical observation the restoration of the ovarian activity is to some extent delayed as faras the lactation is continued. In this paper the relation between lactation and ovarian activity wasexperimentally studied in lactating rats. Through the experiment the vaginal smear was daily examined, while the growing litters (reduced to five) were replaced younger ones before natural weaning,their body weight being measured daily for estimation of the degree of milk secretion.
