現在，関節リウマチ(RA)患者の高齢化が進んでいる．また，高齢発症RA(EORA)も増えており，診断未確定の状態で足専門医師の外来に受診することもある．EORAは若年発症RAとはやや異なっており，大関節発症が多い，自己抗体陽性率がやや低いなどの特徴がある．高齢であっても，保存治療は基本的に非高齢患者と同様に行う．ただしRA患者の胼胝は重度変形が原因であることが多いため，高齢者であろうとも手術治療を検討する必要がある．RA患者の手術時年齢も高齢化してきている．
