The purpose of this prospective study was to evaluate recovery of activities of daily living (ADL), factors, that affect it and the place of residence of 67 elderly patients after hip fracture surgery. The scores on the Barthel index stabilized three months after surgery. Factors associated with better ADL recovery were younger age, less cognitive dysfunction, and shorter interval between surgery and standing up and walking. Better ADL recovery increased the possibility of living at home.
