The Hirnanatomisches Institut (Brain Anatomy Institute, later Brain Research Institute) of the University of Zürich was founded in 1910 by Constantin von Monakow.The 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Department of Neurology at the University Hospital of Zürich by Prof.Mona—kow was celebrated here in Zürich in 1995.In Japan,the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Japanese Association of Anatomists was also cele—brated in 199525).This article will outline the contri—butions of Japanese scientists to neuroscience research at the Brain Anatomy Institute of the University of Zürich in its early years.
