  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Cerebral blood flow was measured in 16 patients with cerebrovascular disease or posttraumatic com-plaints using the 133Xe intracarotid injection tech-nique. After control measurements were performed, 0.005 to 0.006 mg/kg of Hydergine was adminis-tered intravenously (5 patients). The mean CBF did not change significantly: mean figures were 38 ml/100g/min before the administration, and 38 and 36-37 ml/100 g/min immediately after and 15 minutes after administration, respectively.

In 8 patients, 0.020 to 0.024 mg/kg dose was given. CBF increased from 41 ml/100g/min in the steady state to 45-46 ml/100g/min immediately after and 15 minutes after intravenous Hydergine injection, these changes were statistically significant.

In the remaining 3 patients, Hydergine was given in combination with intramuscular dose of ethyl-phenylephrine hydrochloride.

It is concluded that the intravenous Hydergine in dosis of 0.020 to 0.024 mg/kg increases the CBF significantly.
