  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A case of bilateral vertebral arteriovenous fistulae caused by percutaneous vertebral angiography is reported. Bilateral fistulae were approached directly and closure of the orifices was readily accomplished without interruption of vertebral arteries. The rationale and techniques of surgical treatment have been discussed together with a review of the literature. In order to prevent the formation of an arteriovenous fistula following vertebral angio-graphy, direct puncture of the vertebral artery should be avoided. However, as this complication have occurred also following percutaneous carotid angiography, the importance of intensified training in the technique of puncture procedure must be emphasized.
