  • Look Inside

Quite a few victims are suffering from post-traumatic syndromes without neurological abnor-mality.

A spinal tap was performed for 76 patients without neurological abnormalities among those complaining one or more of headache, heavy feeling of head, nuchal pain, nausea, vomiting, vertigo, diz-ziness, tinnitus, ocular pain, paresthesia of limb, and so on after head-, and neck injury, revealing in-tracranial hypotension (IH): 20 patients of IH out of 60 after head injury, 5 out of 16 after whip-lash injury ; namely, the IH of 33% in head injuries, of 31% in whip-lash injuries.

Global lumbar oxygen encephalography (OEG) was carried out for 20 patients suffering from post-traumatic IH. One week after the procedure, a pres-sure of CSF was found to be increased up to normal range in 18 cases, and also the complaints disap-peared completely. Only two cases were necessary for another OEG to be performed, because of per-sistence of their complaints; and the 2nd OEG re-sulted in improvement of complaints.

All cases were followed up at the 2nd and 3rd week after OEG, only to show normal pressure of CSF, and no complaints.
