Average responses of the brain to repetitive tone bursts were investigated by a kind of analog comput-er.

Results were as follows:

1) The typical waveform consisted of positive and negative components. The peak latency of the initial positive one lay approximately at 60 msec and total duration of the response amounted to 500 msec.

2) The responsibility of the brain to sound was remarkably influenced with the subject's con-ciousness. Light sleep was most suitable for the response to appear.

3) The threshold of the response was estimated at less than 30 db and at more than 50 db the resposibility tended to decrease.

On the other hand each response to single tone was observed and its waveform was compared with the average response. The appearance of the each respcnse was examined and discussed from some neurophysiological points of view.
