  • Look Inside

According to our experience, the incidence of the side effects of the cerebral angiography may depend on the contrast media rather than the techniques, and this fact suggests that most of the side effects may due to impairment of the blood-brain barrier by the contrast media. Therefore, we performed an experiment to measure the uptake of RISA in dogs' brain after injection of 10ml of certain contrast media into the carotid artery under pressure of 3 kg/cm2. RISA counts were most marked in "33% lodoxyl (Sugiuron)" and "80% Na in thalamate (Angioconray)" and least in "60% Meglumin intha-lamate (Conray)" and "60% Na and Meglumin dia-trizoate (Urografin)". These facts indicate that the latter two media have less harmful effects on the blood-brain barrier and consequently will be of less side effects.

Our clinical experiences in cerebral angiography with a new contrast medium "Conray" revealed no remarkable side effects, moreover good contrast and low viscosity make this medium advantageous.
