This report is about two cases of progres-sive myositis ossificans with mental disorder. Both are female 23 year-old patients whose diseases started before the age of 5 years. The diagnosis of progressive myositis ossifi-cans in these cases was done by röntgeno-graphic evidence of bony deposits and histo-pathological evidence by biopsy only in the 2nd case. The 2nd case is closely associated with heredo-familiar disorder.

One shows mental deficiency and the other microdactylia. In the 1st case microdactylia was found but no familiar relation. About their intelligence the 2nd case reveals consi-derable deterioration but the character of the other is developed insufficiently as well as in the 2nd case.

No abnormality except increase of creatinand uric acid and decrease of creatinine, has been found in studies of the chemical cons-tituents of the blood. These show only the signs of muscular-bony disease. Mental sym-ptoms of the 1st case is schizophrenic reac-tion with delusion and hallucination which have developed in recent years and vanished by pharmacological treatment. The 2nd case is mental deficiency with aggres sive and persecutive thought and epileptic character.
