The recent clinical study of multiple sclerosis by Professor Okinaka and his colleagues (1957) has done much to awaken interest in this subject in Japan. As a starting point for this lecture I propose to classify the demyelinating diseases and discuss briefly the relationship of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (A. D. E. M.) to multiple sclerosis.
