　開心術後IABPの補助を必要とした5例を対象にTranscranial Doppler（TCD）法を用いてIABP作動時と停止時の血行動態の変化が脳循環に及ぼす影響を検討した．その結果，IABP作動によって心機能改善効果を認めたにもかかわらず，中大脳動脈血流速は拡張期の血流速の増加という二相性の山型パターンを示すものの，脳血流全体には有意な変動は認めず，脳酸素消費も一定に維持されていると考えられた．

The effect of intra-aortic balloon pumping (IABP) on the cerebral circulation was assessed in 5 patients requiring IABP support following open heart surgery. Blood flow velocity in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) was measured by means of transcranial Doppler ultrasonography, and cerebral oxygen consumption was estimated by relating the difference in oxygen content between arterial and venous blood (jugular bulb) to flow velocity with and without balloon pumping.
