After ESD(endoscopic submucosal dissection)for ESCC(esophageal squamous cell carcinoma), a new esophageal squamous cell carcinoma may occur near the site of scar formation. Fibrosis is observed from the lamina propria to the submucosa due to tissue modification by the effects of ESD treatment. Histopathologically, the muscularis mucosae becomes obscured, so it is necessary to pay attention to the evaluation of the invasive depth. However, since such patients are well screened, so secondary squamous cell carcinomas are often found at early-stage as a superficial type, the running of muscularis mucosae rarely require attention for pathological diagnosis. We present the patients in which endoscopic assessment of lesions near the scar after ESD for ESCC was problematic.
