In September 2013, a male patient in his 60's experienced diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting, which repeatedly exacerbated. Therefore, he was referred to our hospital for detailed examination and treatment. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed granular mucosa in the duodenum. Magnification showed findings of villous atrophy. Following a medical interview, it was understood that patient consumed an excessive amount of gluten. Histopathological finding indicated villous atrophy, crypt hyperplasia, and lymphocyte infiltration within the surface epithelium, leading to a diagnosis of celiac disease. Small bowel X-ray examination and endoscopy revealed findings suggestive of extensive villous atrophy. A gluten-free diet was prescribed, after which the clinical symptoms improved. Furthermore, imaging and histopathological findings demonstrated that the small bowel villous atrophy improved. This report will hereby present a case of celiac disease with a focus on duodenal lesions.
